The performances, nominations and controversies around Grammy awards 2023 ,

I'm back with the issue #10 of my newsletter, Leeds1888, and today, we're diving into the buzz surrounding the 65th Annual Grammy Awards.

For those who have been eagerly waiting, the big day is finally here! The Grammy Awards show is set to take place at its original location, Crypto.com Arena (previously known as Staples Center), on February 5th. And, of course, we'll be able to catch all the action live on CBS or streamed on Paramount+ (or if you're an Indian audience, you can catch it on 6th Feb at 5.30 am IST).

And who better to host this extravagant event than none other than the hilarious Trevor Noah, who will be making his third appearance as the host of the awards.

This year's nominations are heating up with the return of a classic showdown between the queens of pop, Beyoncé and Adele. It's déjà vu for those who remember the 2017 Grammys where Adele walked away with five awards to Beyoncé's two. But will history repeat itself this year? Only time will tell.

As with every awards show, there are always a few controversies lurking in the background. This year, the Grammy Awards aren't immune, with several artists pulling out or boycotting the event due to a "lack of transparency" in the way the winners are selected. Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak, the duo behind Silk Sonic, have recently joined the likes of Drake and The Weeknd who have also decided to sit this one out.

So, who made it to the list of nominations? Here's a quick rundown of the major categories:

Best Rap Performance: DJ Khaled, Doja Cat, Gunna & Future, Hitkidd & Glorilla, Kendrick Lamar

The Song of the Year category is the real powerhouse, with Adele, Beyoncé, Bonnie Raitt, DJ Khaled, Gayle, Harry Styles, Kendrick Lamar, Lizzo, Steve Lacy, and Taylor Swift all vying for the top spot.

For R&B lovers, the categories to look out for are Best R&B Performance (Beyoncé, Jazmine Sullivan, Lucky Daye, Mary J. Blige, Muni Long) and Best R&B Song (Beyoncé, Jazmine Sullivan, Mary J. Blige, Muni Long, PJ Morton).

And let's not forget about the music videos and films! The Best Music Video category features Adele, BTS, Doja Cat, Harry Styles, Kendrick Lamar, and Taylor Swift. Meanwhile, the Best Music Film category showcases Adele, Billie Eilish, Justin Bieber, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Rosalía, and various artists.

A news that will cheer the Indian music fans is the nomination of Arooj Aftab & Anoushka Shankar’s for – Udhero Na under the ‘Best Global Music Performance’ Category

This year 5 new categories are introduced namely-

News and My Views from the world of Entertainment this week

Indian Cinema

Shah Rukh Khan gets praised by Paulo Cohelo after the success of his movie Pathaan.

The alchemist author praised the Indian Superstar Shah Rukh Khan for his performance in his latest movie Pathan that has already grossed a global collection of 42.6 USD in its opening week.

American Cinema

‘Groundhog Day’ the classic Fantasy Comedy Movie enters into its 30th year of release.

Get ready to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the ultimate romcom, "The Groundhog Day"! Starring the one and only Bill Murray, the stunning Andie MacDowell, and the hilarious Chris Elliott, this film takes the classic Groundhog Day tradition and gives it a twist.

For those who don't know, Groundhog Day is a North American holiday where a groundhog pops out of its burrow and, if it sees its shadow, winter continues for six more weeks. But, if the sky is cloudy and the groundhog doesn't see its shadow, spring is on the way!

Enter Phil Connors, a selfish TV weatherman who makes the mistake of predicting that a blizzard will miss Western Pennsylvania, only to find himself stranded in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania on Groundhog Day. Despite his attempts to escape, Phil is stuck in a time loop and realises he can't seem to break free.

This film is a hilarious take on our desire to escape reality and the patterns of behaviour that we get stuck in over time. Even though it was made 30 years ago, its message is still just as relevant today. So, if you're looking for a good laugh and a film that will have you questioning the meaning of life, look no further than "The Groundhog Day". Trust us, you won't regret it!

Well, those were my top picks from the world of entertainment. I hope you enjoyed reading this edition as much as I loved creating it.
